Ten Things

It's been a while since I've done a Ten Things post, so let's give it a whirl:

I. I'm teaching a numerology class tonight at a metaphysical shop called The Alchemist; in Clinton. I'm looking forward to it, but I've been under the weather all week. I'm still not sure if this is a terrible allergy flare or a head cold. I'll be juicing up on meds and throwing a mask on my face anyway because if someone shows up wearing Patchouli, which is bound to happen at these sorts of things, I will definitely have an allergy flare.

II. I did not realize that this was Good Friday when I booked this class. I'm concerned that no one will show up. I don’t do religious holidays because in my former life as an esthetician, I quite liked the extra pay I got for coming in. I also enjoyed having the salon to myself and my clients. It was a completely different atmosphere, and the clients, who were not Christian, appreciated it. Anyway, I'm not used to taking these things into account, and this is a heavily Catholic area, so fingers crossed that at least three or four people show up.

III. I am working there every Saturday for the month of April as a guest reader. I'm excited for this as well! I enjoy doing numerology readings, and it'll be interesting to see what the folks of Clinton are like.

IV. My wife is making me late, late breakfast, and she is cursing at the countertop oven. My mother gifted us a small convection oven a couple of years ago. It also functions as a toaster and air fryer. My wife still refuses to learn how does not know how to make toast.....or use the oven properly, period. She's on the phone with a friend, cursing the oven up and down. It's funny, sorry not sorry.

V. It's a shitty art week here in the studio. The last few days, I have been seized with the urge to design something, but I know not what. So far, everything I have tried to create has gone tits up. Something will stick.

VI. I participate in a regular group on a platform called Ravelry, a database/community for fibre and needle arts. The group is the Harry Potter Knit Crochet House Cup. I had not participated in the challenges for several years, and this year I applied to be sorted for the winter term. I was placed in Gryffindor for a change. Usually, I am sorted into Slytherin. It was fun! I designed four pairs of socks, two knit and two crochet, for the different assignments. I am considering applying to do a NEWT (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test), which is a three month project that gets done in addition to the monthly "homework" assignments you have to turn in. I have to read the requirements. I may have to do an OWL first, it's been a long time since I've looked.

VII. Next week the basement will be all done and I will be able to take the tarp and ropes off my things. Yay!!! Everything in the basement was put in the middle of the room and covered with tarp because we had a bunch of things done to combat an emerging moisture issue. That was a month ago and my wife doesn't want to remove the wrappings and ties from everything until the basement is 100% finished. I understand but I still miss the books and yarn that didn't make it upstairs when we brought a lot of the basement contents up to the garage and the spare room.

VIII. Although I go to the gym I am looking forward to sunrise walking in Proctor Park, now that spring is here. I love going through the stone staircases and faint trails that lead through the trees and bush, winding their way down to the riverbed. Is it better than coffee? No, nothing will replace coffee, but it is a nice way to greet the day before anything else, including coffee.

IX. The Space is back on!! I haven't talked about it here because this space is new. Last year I was offered space in the back of a coffeehouse, to use as a studio/reading space. The owner of the coffeehouse owns the building and this space is one room with a shop counter and a window seat. It is currently being used to house what remains of the owner's former vintage clothing shop from well over 20 years ago. To say that it is a hoarder space is an understatement. I was making progress cleaning it weekly, trying to be mindful of the fact that I was touching a hoarder's things, when the furnace connected to that space went tits up in January. Now that it is warmer and it is easier to get furnace people in to see a furnance at more reasonable rates, things are back on. I call it "The Space" for now and I am looking forward to getting back in there. Realistically, if I shook the lesbian phone tree, me and two or three others could have that space cleared in an afternoon, but whenever I start to move quickly, my friend (the owner) starts to react rather viscerally, so we move slooooooowly. Sometimes I am a paragon of understanding, other times I want to shake her like a chicken and just throw everything out.

X. Well, here we are at the last thing! My hair appointment is coming up in two weeks. My stylist is wonderfully talented but she is batshit crazy. She's one of these Americans that you see on social media, who thinks that the Messiah and Trump are one in the same. I found her through my sister in law, who warned me. She gets stressed out during her appointments, and I have a completely different experience. I go in there knowing that she and I will never see eye to eye on anything, and I do love to push the red button. I have a list of controversial topics in my head and I just press GO - and we're off! Sorry not sorry, but it is fun to get her wound up while I get my hair done.

And that's all I've got for now!
